Why is it that when two people who love each other and stay together, they end up fighting over smaller things? In 80% of cases, it’s assumptions, miscommunication, and choosing the wrong words. Let’s understand how communication can solve many of these problems.

  1. Listen actively: Pay attention without interrupting, show empathy, and understanding. Sometimes, repetition can be irritating, and based on your judgment, you might interrupt to speak. Let them speak. Often, people gain clarity by themselves while talking and realize whether it was really worth it or not. You'll also understand the person better.

  2. Create a safe space: Ensure honesty is met with non-judgmental responses. Everyone has some mild trauma or baggage. Nobody is emotionally "organic" — they may have encountered manipulative people in the past, either personally or professionally. And that’s okay. Allow the person to express themselves freely.

  3. Be open and honest: Share your feelings and thoughts without fear of rejection. Partners must express themselves without the fear of being judged or rejected. It’s important to share what you feel, what makes you reactive, what triggers you, and what pleases you. A partner should understand that what seems silly to you might be very important to the other person.

  4. Ask open-ended questions: Talking together isn’t just about knowing each other, but often you learn about yourself while talking, which helps clear your own thoughts. So encourage deeper conversations and avoid yes/no answers.

  5. Respect boundaries: Sometimes, more than your presence, your absence can heal your partner. Not everyone likes talking when they’re upset. They might prefer to reflect and come back to you when they have more clarity. They may avoid you not because they’re upset with you, but because they fear speaking out in a way that could hurt you. They might also need time to cool down and approach the situation with a clearer mind. Hence, give each other space to express thoughts comfortably.
